Lesson Three: Introductions (Part-Two)

Welcome back.
This lesson will wrap up our introduction to introductions.
Picking up where we left Bob and Steve, we are just going to jump right back into the lesson.


Bob: 你好嗎?    (Ni3 Hao3 Ma5)
Steve: 我很好，你呢?    (Wo3 Hen3 Hao3  Ni3 Ne5)
Bob: 我也很好，謝謝。    (Wo3 Ye3 Hen3 Hao3   Xie4 Xie5)

Bob said "我" which you should remember from the last lesson. "也" (Ye3) which means "Also" and since you already should know the words "很好" we can piece together the first part of his sentence means "I also very good,".

Now the last part is rather simple to remember as the two characters together simply mean one word.
"謝謝" (Xie4 Xie5) and the meaning of this word can be translated as "Thank you".
I know this conversation was on the simpler side of things, but it is still a very practical introduction to use when  just bumping into a friend. Soon you will be conversing in Chinese, reading through websites and news articles, or maybe reading a Chinese version of your favorite novels.

Remember that if you practice writing these characters you should say the sound out loud every time you write it. This will help you retain the characters meaning and remember how to pronounce it.
