Lesson Fourteen: Where Are You From? (Part Four)

Finally it seems we have made it to the final chapter in the Where Are You From? series of lessons.
I have been diligently sticking to the scheduled three characters each day format and I know we only have two characters left to learn in this lesson but that is okay. Today I will be throwing in an extra character to give us our usual three for the day.

Jenny: 我從英國的倫敦來,你呢? Wo3 Cong2 Ying1 Guo2 De5 Lun2 Dun1 Lai2, Ni3 Ne5?
Bob: 我從美國的芝加哥來。Wo3 Mei3 Guo2 De5 Zhi1 Jia1 Ge1 Lai2.

Alright moving onto the last part of this lesson, seeing as we skipped 來 and 美 last time I think it is about time we go back and finish those out.
The word 來 ( lai2 ) ( it means Come ). So the original what Jenny said was " I come from London, England, and you? "
However, if we did a literal translation it would read something like this " I from England's London come, and you? "
You see how Chinese has to use 的 to describe the fact that the London you are talking about is the one that is in England.

Now if you haven't guessed it already 美國 ( Mei3 Guo2 ) ( it means United States of America ).

Now for our bonus character to give us our usual three for every lesson. And our amazing surprise character is 對. ( Dui4 ) ( it means Correct ).
This is a very important character as people use it a lot in everyday conversations especially when asking questions.

See you all next time on Zhongwen Study 中文學習。
